2016 HOPE Conference: "Becoming Applied:

The Transformation of Economics after 1970," April 1-2, 2016

Welcome to the homepage of the 2016 HOPE conference, "Becoming Applied: The Transformation of Economics after 1970."

Organized by Roger E. Backhouse (University of Birmingham and University of Rotterdam) and Beatrice Cherrier (University of Caen), the conference will explore the changing status of applied economics within the wider discipline.

A working paper by the organizers that underpins the conference is available as HOPE Center Working Paper 2014-15.

The conference, which is open to invited scholars and guests only, will take place April 1-2, 2016, at the Washington Duke Inn on the campus of Duke University. A subset of the papers will appear as a special issue of History of Political Economy in 2017.

The conference is funded by Duke University Press and the Center for the History of Political Economy at Duke University.
