Jose Edwards, a fellow of the Center for 2010-2011, has joined the Government School of Adolfo Ibáñez University, in Santiago, Chile, as Assistant Professor. Jose is the author, along with Sophie Pelle, of "Capabilities for the Miserable; Happiness for the Satisfied," available as Center working paper 2011-05, and his paper titled "Observing Attitudes, Intentions, and Expectations (1945-1973)" will appear in the 2012 supplemental issue of HOPE.

Tiago Mata, a fellow of the Center for 2010-2011, has been awarded a 5-year grant by the European Research Council, Starting Grant programs. In spring 2012 he will join the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Cambridge to administer the grant. The title of his project is "Economics in the Public Sphere: USA, UK, France, Poland and Brazil since 1945." Tiago is one of the organizers of the 2012 HOPE conference, "The Economist as Public Intellectual."

Teresa Tomas Rangil, a fellow of the Center in the Fall of 2011, will join the University of Oxford's Faculty of History in spring 2012 as a two-year postdoctoral fellow to work on a project titled "War, Peace and Poverty in the 20th Century." Her article titled "Conflict as 'Normal Economic Activity': The Contribution of Jack Hirshleifer, 1925-2005," appears in the winter 2011 issue of HOPE. Her paper titled "The Politics of Neutrality: UNESCO's Social Science Department, 1946-1956," is available as Center working paper 2011-08. Rangil's thesis "The Role of Self-Interest and Rationality in the Explanation of International and Civil Wars, 1942-2005" was awarded the Joseph Dorfman Best Dissertation Prize at the 2011 History of Economics Socirty meetings.
