Basic Submission Guidelines for History of Political Economy

HOPE is currently transitioning to ScholarOne to manage all submissions, referee reports, and editorial decisions. All new submissions submitted after October 14, 2022, should be submitted through ScholarOne. All referee reports on those submission should also be submitted through ScholarOne

Any referee reports and resubmissions that originated with papers under the old system should instead be sent to hope@econ.duke.edu.

All other editorial correspondence should be sent to hope@econ.duke.edu

History of Political Economy uses a single-blind refereeing process. Please include your name and affiliation (if you have one) on the first page of your paper. Papers should be double-spaced, use a conventional 12-point type such as Times New Roman, and have one-inch margins all around.

When possible, papers should be submitted as a Word document rather than a PDF. An exception is made for papers composed in LaTeX, which may be submitted for review as a PDF (source files will be required only upon acceptance). Please submit your paper through ScholarOne.

Only original, unpublished papers will be considered. Please do not simultaneously offer your paper to another publication.

Images should be scanned at a minimum of 300 dpi and at 4.25 inches wide and be submitted as a TIFF or EPS graphics file.

Authors are expected to sign a publication agreement as a precondition of publication. Please retain a copy of the publication agreement for your records, as it explains what your rights are as the author of the paper, including republication rights.

When preparing your manuscript for final submission, refer to the seventeenth edition of The Chicago Manual of Style for matters of style. For more details regarding the journal’s submission guidelines, visit https://dukeupress.edu/history-of-political-economy/.
